We are creating 3 “No Slum Zones”!

In our community, we face horrendous living conditions that threaten our health and safety, especially for our kids. Slumlords profit from our misery, refusing to make basic repairs and constantly raising the rent.

This is against the law. We need the city attorney and housing department to respond to the violations forcefully, eliminating slums in out neighborhoods. We plan to:

• Eliminate all slum conditions in these neighborhoods within one year
• Meet with community residents every month to report on the progress
• use all available legal tools to eliminate slum conditions

There is much work to be done. Our immediate goals within these “No Slum” zones are to fully implement housing inspections and increase prosecution of negligent landlords. Ultimately, we want to rid our districts of slum housing and increase the number of safe and affordable dwellings in the poorest districts of Los Angeles.

• “No Slum” Zone 1 is located in the 1st Council District and covers the area bound by the 110 Freeway, South Union Avenue, West 7th Street, and West 9th Street.
• “No Slum” Zone 2 is located in the 10th Council District and covers the area bound by Arlington Avenue, Hobart, Pico, and Washington Boulevards.
• “No Slum” Zone 3 is also located in the 10th Council District and covers the area bound by Hoover, Vermont, San Marino, and Olympic Avenues.
